disturbance

In forest ecology, a disturbance is a discrete event that does not belong to the normal functioning of a forest ecosystem and causes changes in ecosystem properties, such as the release of resources. The concept of a disturbance regime describes the frequency, intensity (biomass affected per unit area), and the spatial and temporal pattern (size and spatial distribution of the affected area).
