In forestry practice, yield tables are used to estimate stand growth based on data from experimental plots in various regions, presented in tabular form. The principle of the yield table is based on the assumption that total growth performance depends not only on height and height development but also on site and age. Yield tables show age-related development in average stand characteristics (e.g. height, diameter, basal area, volume, and increment), differentiated by yield classes, site quality, and silvicultural treatment (type and intensity of thinning). They serve as a working basis for assessing, planning, and monitoring silvicultural measures for stand tending and timber harvesting.
